I ditched the cell phone 3 years ago and have never looked back.  I have a landline.  I remember the days when we would go out shopping or whatever with NO cell phone and when I ditched it, I worried about the what if's.  But that soon passed and I thought, well if I break down on the road, I will put it in God's hands and not get all flustered about it.  But I am 74 and only broke down on the road once in my whole life and that was a flat tire.  Fortunately, I was able to keep driving my 2003 Toyota Prius on a flat tire to a gas station for a repair.  Funny thing is, I did not even know it was flat as I was driving on the freeway, that's how well this car handled a flat tire.  I only found out because the person next to me signaled I had a flat.  Back to the cell phone.  It would be wist to stay away from these addictive beast system devices.  If technology can blow them up, then it is not worth the risk.  I suspect a satelite was used to blow up the batteries, but maybe they were compromised in some way from the factory.  Either way, it just shows us what the powers that be can do if they want to.  I see in the comments how hooked people are to these things and that was probably the intention from the get go.  I will never ever have one of them and if I want pictures I can always use my Nikon camera.  I have my life back without that thing and I can now give the people around me my full attention and not be distracted by a cell phone.

Hey there,
I am quite a bit older than you and will be heading to San Miguel De Alende Mexico in the coming months.  This is a good community for a person to start an off grid life so you might want to check out the area.  Lots of xpats there and there is ample space to live a country life.  They have a forum there where you can connect with people of all ages.  CivilSMA1@groups.io  You have to apply to be a free member, but that is easy.  Then you can connect with people up there if you are interested.

I am thankful to God for all that has been so lovingly provided to me in life.  I am thankful for the good and the bad because there are lessons to be learned from both.  Thank you God for the breath of life.

This is the most interesting thread I have ever read on permies.  Even though I live in northern Florida, I am considering one of these.  My question is though: Do you need the bench to be so big or can it be small as the size of some of these benches would take up too much of the living space.  Is there a way for these benches to go vertical?

I live with a relative who is a sugar addict.  I think she traded one addiction (alcohol) for another.  She eats more sugar than any other food and now it is baking season and I keep telling her "NO Thank You" when she wants me to eat a little cookie here, or a piece of chocolate there.  If she can get me to eat the sugary stuff then she feels justified with her behavior and dives right in and eats even more.  Yesterday she bought some store bought cookies because she was eating her Christmas cookies that are in a tin in the freezer right out of the tin - frozen.  I don't know what to do about this because I have never been a sugar person, and I am constantly having to justify my lack of participation in the sugar fest.  If I mention sugar feeds cancer cells, which it does, I get the oh well zombie look.  In one ear - out the other.

Hi,

I watched an interview with Dr. Mercola recently and he was speaking about the dangers of LED lights and how they can cause blindness due to the blue spectrum.  He was recommending incandescent lighting as an alternative because it has the infrared spectrum which is beneficial to our eye health.  Just thought this might be some useful info for you as you get your plans underway for living off grid.  Here is the web link.

Thank you all for your kind words of encouragement.  I don't really know my sisters dogs on a personal level as we live pretty far from each other, but the one on the left is definitely a fun-loving goofette according to my sister.  Painting is a God given gift and I really enjoy it. It is a form of meditation and often when I am done, I look at the work and think to myself, how did I do that?

I have been searching the net for a solution to the flea problem on my cat.  I adopted her last month and the people failed to tell me she was loaded with fleas, poor thing.  So I have been using a flea comb and literally getting about 10 fleas and loads of eggs daily.  Every time I think it is under control, there are more.  So today, I found this guys site and this was the most informative site I have found on using diatomaceous earth so far.  I would like to share this with anyone who is experiencing this little problem.  I doused my carpets today.  Fortunately I have been adding the food grade stuff for years to smoothies and had a lot of it on hand.  I buy the stuff on Amazon for about $10 for ten pounds.  I give it to the kitty in her water too.  Not too much to make it too cloudy but just enough to irritate the intestinal parasites.  I have read that this is good for that.  That is why I take it, but not too often.  Only about once a week.  It seems to be enough but then I have never looked in my intestines to see what is actually happening.  Anyway, here is the guys site on using this stuff for flea control.  https://richsoil.com/flea-control.jsp

I like to paint pet portraits.  Here is a picture I recently painted of my sisters dogs Bella and Gretta.  They live in Steamboat Springs, Colorado.  I hope you like it. I am not sure if the picture will post or not.  I did not see it in the preview.
