Our car got a bit yucky after a recent outing. Some bits of food dropped here and there. Time to clean, and since it's Ohsoji, let's clean it well!
I used to do auto detailing as a summer job many years ago in a
land far far away.
I used a vacuum cleaner, paper towels, and water.
Having a few attachments for the vacuum cleaner makes this sort of job much easier and more enjoyable. I vacuum everything, then remove the mats, and vacuum again. The driver's seat floor mat gets an incredible amount of dust and dirt on it. So I spend special attention to removing dust. An easy way to check is to beat it out with a futon beater and see if any dust comes off. I continued beating and vacuuming it until no more dust flew. Yay. My respiratory system will thank me.
I cleaned all the glass, but only took a few careful pictures to avoid too many revealing reflections. I also cropped out a lot of reflections.
Cleaning glass is not hard, but I find people have trouble with it. The first step is to remove the dirt. You can do this step however you want. Usually water and a rag or paper will work well. The important part is after you have removed all the dirt, you must not reapply any. You need clean rags or paper towels. It's a lot easier to clean glass with paper because it absorbs all of the water instead of pushing it around. It also doesn't leave lint. Too much water and it will saturate the paper towel and you have the same problem. The goal is to barely wet the glass and wipe it, removing all water. Leaving any water on the glass will also leave tiny particulates as it dries in place, thus you get water spots and streaks.
