Genuine question: Why do we clean ovens? I totally understand that clean glass is useful, and it is worth wiping up large spills etc... but sparking clean innards doesn't make the over cook any better, or impart any different flavour does it? The food is always cooked in it's own clean dish.

Revisited the walls, scrubbed them with baking soda, and they look somewhat better now. Thanks for the tip about the screws! I seldom touch screw drivers so I wouldn't have noticed that!
I manually cleaned an oven!
Process:
Make and apply a paste of baking soda and water. Let the paste sit until you get antsy to start scrubbing. Put on some energetic music; I recommend a tarantella. Scrub like several generations of your sweetheart's sainted grandmothers are watching over your shoulder, and his mother is going to borrow your oven first thing in the morning. For the most part I used a cotton rag for the glass, and a copper scrubby for the metal. Wipe off all the messy baking soda. Be amazed!

"[6] Let the people, O God, confess to Thee: let all the people give praise to Thee: [7] The earth hath yielded her fruit. May God, our God bless us, [8] May God bless us: and all the ends of the earth fear Him." (Psalms 66/67)
