Sharpening our 2nd chef's knife. They get a lot of use in our kitchen, and this one was long due.

Can I use a tomato as proof of sharpness? Because that’s what inspired me to sharpen this knife. I’ve been watching videos on methods and felt prepared to take it on when I started dicing this tomato and couldn’t get through it with my favorite kitchen knife. Used a whetstone with two sides of different coarseness. Cut right through the tomato after sharpening with no drag and even nicked my fingernail.

Note: The knife looks sharp now, but it needs to be proven by cutting paper

Requirements to complete:
 - must be sharpened with a whetstone (or more than one)
 - sharpen secondary edge as well as primary edge
 - hone
 - test before and after with cutting paper

To get certified for this BB, post three pics:

  - closeup of pic of the dull edge OR pic of the dull knife raggedly cutting through a piece of paper
  - action pic of sharpening
  - pic of the sharp knife having cut halfway through a piece of paper

I'm at WL and needed to sharpen a knife for cutting onions (...) without hurting myself!

I used a whetstone with 1000 and 6000 grit. I used the knife this morning to cut an onion and it's nicely sharpened now!
