Chris's Boot camp experience

Maybe an 'I would advise that'  could replace the 'should'.... (I have to practice this kind of substitution myself :) .. along with a lot of 'I think's' ...

The angle of pictures is sometimes a problem, this is why I didn't comment on the picture:

"Cut down my first tree using a slice cut method over by cooper cabin"

It looks like the cutting slice is not at the right point, in addition to be a bit to deep, as well as having cut the cut that finally brings down the tree somehow at first? Also it is pinewood, great to start a stove but not really wanted for heating purposes, unless you ar all the time near the stove or/and it is capable of a huhge load! Sure if pinewood is all you have, it is far better then freezing...

As for language, I think it is always good to come from "my position is ..." or "if it were me, I would ..." or "when I do this, I ..."

As for safety, please note that these are electric chainsaws.   And my philosophy on safety is different from the norm - which is another way of saying that I think my philosophy is much safer.  For example, I am a powerful advocate of using the timber tool - I think that alone makes tripping trees about ten times safer.

Mike, I don't think Chris made perfect cuts, and that's ok. That's part of learning.  During and after the cuts, we talked about how it could be better the next time. People join the bootcamp to learn by working,  not because we're world renowned experts on everything. Sometimes we're learning together.

Bootcamp day 5

This is great to see some of what goes on during the winter.  Looks like you are learning a lot and having fun doing so. Thanks for sharing,love the pics.

Today I had my first day off since I started working as a boot. Had my sabbath rest, spent some quality time with my wife and kids over the cyberspace and wandered around base camp for a while. Oh, and I got a little bit of nest labor in chopping some firewood for the morning.

How old are your kids, Chris? (And you don't have to answer if you don't want to! I have a 2 year old and 5 year old.) I'm glad you got a chance to chat with them online today!!!
