While reading another thread about using a bone sauce as a nibbling animal repellent, it reminded me of an article I read a couple of years ago about dead cockroaches giving off a scent that will repel other bugs:

Has anyone else heard about this?
Seems to me that it would be a simple thing to breed some cockroaches (yes, intentionally  ) for the purpose of making large quantities of bug repellent.

I'd try some tests of my own, but I think I've reached my wife's mad scientist limit with the rocket stove and tree care tinkering - breeding large quantities of bugs is too much to ask, at least until we have a little more land

Maybe good for use in the house? If it repels ALL insects, I don't think I would want any eau de death in my garden.
