I wanted to drive a sand point well, but it seems like I might have to go about 45 to 50 feet to get into a few feet of water. I’m in Norh Florida so the ground here is mostly sand.

Two questions:  can you drive a sand point that deep? I’m not afraid of hard work, just whether it’ll fall apart on me.

Second, what kind of hand pump would you recommend for a static water level of about 40 feet? My understanding is that on a sand point the casing itself is meant to be the suction pipe, so it doesn’t seem like a good idea to have one that uses a drop pipe. Are there pitcher pumps that will pump from that far down? I always see 25 feet listed as the limit.

Here is a thread for your reference https://permies.com/t/108654/Deep-Electricity-Remote-Country-options.

Its best to use drill and drive technique for sandy soil. then drop small size gravel in the well before you lower your cylinder pump. No you cannot use the casing as suction pipe. 25 feet is the limit for suction more than that you have to use a cylinder pump lowered in the well deeper than water level. Sometimes we dont even use force to ambed a pipe on sandy soil. we just place a plastic hose connected to a pump inside the pipe to be driven. The water jet will excavate the sand and push the sand particles up. the pipe will bury itself without you doing anything.
