I emailed you about the feedburner stuff for security purposes. Better that conversation be private due to the possible server involvement.

I can do 50 videos on a page at a time. It is now set to 50.

Added - Site now has a favicon. I just used a iTunes icon until we can come up with something better.

We can change the colors of anything to anything you like. It might be better to do a skype session so that I can see your screen and you can point out the changes you want for coloring and they can be done in real time. Do you have skype or some other screen sharing software we could use?

Moved - Search Bar to top of right nav bar.

Moved - Tags to bottom of page

Added - Popular Discussions to bottom of page (Popular Forums Threads)

I so badly want to add the RichSoil.com articles to the /permaculture page but am holding off. I want to do it as a SEO test to see how well I can get the SEO for the articles on WordPress. It would be hard to compete with richsoil.com due to all of the outside links that point to it but it might be possible

Awesome! It is now better than my youtube channel!

K.

I'm trying to think of what would be a good icon for there. I used to have an image of an old boot ....

Nice boot!

So we now have the old itunes and the new itunes. Which is which?

Do we wanna ask folks to go to the new itunes now? is that rock solid? Do we wanna ask people to .... i dunno - does it make a difference to ask folks to give it stars and write comments?

And what about the folks with the feedburner stuff. Should we tell them that seems to be not working just now?

The old podcast has been renamed to Homestead Podcast by Paul Wheaton. This will be reverted to a podcast that is the podcast for all podcasts. That means that in the future when we start adding video podcasts, the old feed "feedburner feed" will display both the audio and the video podcasts.

The new podcast "Permaculture Podcast by Paul Wheaton" is fully up and running.

I have added Blubrry podcast statistics. Nothing changes except the url will appear different for each .mp3 file. That does not mean we do anything different. We still put the regular .mp3 file url into powerpress when adding a new podcast.
What this does is lets us track how many people are actually downloading the podcasts. When you login to the dashboard you will now see a PowerPress Statistics panel on the front page. This gives us the statistics. It may take a day or two for it to fully kick in but that's it! We now have detailed statistics for podcast downloads instead of just knowing how many people subscribed to the feed.

As Paul might say, this is "awesome-sauce!"

I swear I saw one of the podcasts linked on FB with an embedded player or play button, but now I can't seem to find it. Am I crazy?

I just pointed my podcatcher directly at http://www.richsoil.com/permaculture/feed/. It now sees all of the podcasts! Can iTunes get its feed from http://www.richsoil.com/permaculture/feed/? That would eliminate the whole feedburner issue.

So here is the old itunes stuff that is fed through feedburner. It is currently broken. it looks like feedburner is upset with something at richsoil.com/permaculture/feed

http://itunes.apple.com/us/podcast/permaculture-podcast-by-paul/id426013000

I think the problem is that the richsoil feed has a pic in it. I think we're gonna keep that feed, but take the pic out - thus, hopefully, fixing it. That feed is "everything". We will probably shorten it to be just the last 100 items or so.

The new itunes stuff gets stuff directly from the blog complete with some new fancy pants stuff that Mr. Wallingford has set up. It is podcasts only and should have a capacity of thousands of podcasts.

http://itunes.apple.com/us/podcast/permaculture-podcast-by-paul/id503121953

Mr. Wallingford has a long list of excellent ideas about stuff to do in the future for all of this feedy/itunes-ish stuff.

The cache issue has been resolved with the host server!

Added a social media bar to the top of the page. This will allow people to see and access all of the places that Paul is socially. We can add anything to this bar, even a link to the forums or maybe all the posts Paul has made on the forums. If you want anything else added to it or removed from it let me know. The reddit button will show all of the posts Paul has posted on reddit.
I wasn't sure if it would be best to have the social bar above or below the navigation bar. I think I like it best above the navigation bar. What do you think?

Removed the side bars from different parts of the website. You can see what I mean if you click on Podcasts. It will now remove the sidebar so that it is easier to see all of the podcast episodes. I think it looks cleaner. If they were to click on one of those podcasts to "drill down" it would go back to having the sidebar so that people can easily navigate to other things.

The new iTunes channel does show the newest podcast, yes. The old iTunes channel, which is being changed to a general channel that shows all media not just audio podcasts, is still having issues with feedburner and does not show the latest podcast.

New Feature! - What's Paul Saying? Well if you want to know what Paul Wheaton is saying everywhere on either the Permies forums or on Reddit you should check out the new page "What's Paul Saying?" on RichSoil.com/Permaculture. You will find the page on the top navigation bar for now.
I can add any feeds to this that we like. Where else does Paul say a lot on the internet?

110, 109, 108. I would like to have a picture displayed above each podcast on the website. This will make the site look a lot better when we start adding videos. Which I hope to start tonight. Not only will it make things look a little nicer, having a picture with an alt tag for each post add to seo.
If this will take too much time from someone I understand. If not the images just need to be placed in "Featured Image" for each of the posts. I have no problem doing it myself if that is easier. I just need a bunch of pictures to choose from.

iTunes and RSS Feeds

We have made some changes to the iTunes channels and the websites main RSS Feed.

If you use a rss feed reader like Google Reader than you will notice a small change. The name of the feed has been changed to "homesteading podcast with paul wheaton". This feed will now start showing more than just podcasts. It will now show everything we post to the site.

If you are a iTunes podcast subscriber you will notice that the name of the podcast has changed to "homesteading podcast with paul wheaton". There are some changes to this channel. The new changes are that this channel will now show audio as well as video and this channel will only show a specified amount of the latest media. Currently it will show the latest 40 audio/videos.

We have a new channel on iTunes that is just for the audio podcasts and will show all of them from 001 - current. That channel name is "Permaculture Podcast by Paul Wheaton".

In summary
Name change to RSS Feed
RSS Feed now shows more than just audio podcasts
iTunes channel has been renamed and now displays all media
New iTunes channel added to iTunes for only audio podcasts

What size?

Maybe we need to have a thread full of images where you (or suzy bean) can grab images that seem like they might fit. Or be funny.

The first video podcast has been added. We will be releasing one video per day until we are all caught up with the videos available on YouTube. After that each video will be released when they are created.

We are waiting for the podcast to be approved by iTunes.

I will update as soon as I have the iTunes approval and everything is setup on the site. For now you can view the first episode at:

Josiah, this may seem like a minute detail, but is it easy to make the anchor text links a brighter color on the podcast pages? At least on my computer, the links are hard to tell from the other text.

I am new to all this permaculture stuff. I am signed up to take a PDC with Toby May-October. I just wanted to say that I have now listened to all of the podcasts! Yeah! I enjoyed all of them, even 111. What I enjoy most is the interviews, book and movie reviews. Paul's list of books was helpful too. I just completed Square Foot Garden (The All New), and I am working on Botany in a Day. I have Toby's book on my shelf and One Straw Revolution on its way. I have been searching for this stuff for about two years but did not know what it was. I was wanting some land and looking for the "right" way to do things, animal husbandry and crops. What I knew how to do just did not "feel" right. I stumbled upon Polyface Farm about two years ago and that felt like a good fit, but what about crops. One day this past January I saw a YouTube video of this big guy in overalls saying that Joel is brilliant, but he is no Sepp Holzer. Well, that got my interest and opened me up to a whole new world. I am happy to be on the permaculture path. Thank you Paul!

This is kinda freaky.

1) Helen Atthowe just agreed to do the chapter-by-chapter review of botony in a day with me.

2) This is the second time in less than a week somebody said they seriously grooved on the video(s) of me talking. I uploaded four at a time because I thought they were so weak.

Congratulations Joshua. And I'm glad to have been of help!

Just made some changes to the site! The goal was to simplify the site and make it easier to navigate around. So far I have installed a new navigation menu. I have not completed the coloring customizations on it yet. I removed all of the sidebar and bottom navigation items and put them all into the new navigation bar. This opens the page up so that you can see more content on a single page and do not have to move to the right and bottom of the pages to find categories, tags, articles... etc etc.

Please let me know how it flows with you. Also any ideas on color styling? Link colors, hover over colors, background colors... stuff like that.

I wondered if you have ever checked out free food and medicine with mark rosencrantz-it's a series of 5 DVDs. I think I posted it on here before, but I may have posted it in the wrong place as I never got any feedback...

Just curious what you would have to say about them. I aim to be an expert forager one day so it excites me very much!

This thread more covers doing things to the websites. If you want to suggest it for a podcast or for a article write up you might want to suggest it on one of the polls here: Polls

If you want people to talk about it on the forums the best place to post this would probably be on the Wild Harvesting thread here: Wild Harvesting Ancestral Skills
