Just wondering if anyone knows how Geoff and Zaytuna farm are holding out with the fires in Australia.  Has his place been spared the worst so far?

I've been wondering about that too. My son used to live in Melbourne and now lives in New Zealand. He said the smoke from the fires has, at times, been visible where he is on the south island.

I thought about them too, and Yobarnie and Taranaki (the "keyline farms"). Would be great if they were resistant to that... although such strong event can probably overpower any design.

Yes I can confirm that too, i.e. I have a friend on the southern NZ island who said the sun struggled to break through the smoky haze but it seemed to be just a few days.  The news showed Mt. Cook covered in white ash from the Australian fires!

What is the location of Geoff Lawton's farm?

Thanks for that....hmmm.....doesn't look good then does it?  Hopefully he managed to evacuate in time.  

My heart goes out to those now suddenly homeless, stripped of everything they once owned, not even a change of clothes maybe!  Hopefully many will be able to stay with friends in areas so far unaffected by the fires.  

I heard today that the Australian government is now going to shoot over 10,000 camels because they drink too much water! 😮  Wow!  Such drastic action!!!  
(I have been wondering where they get all the water to deal with the fire....presumably they can't use seawater then?)

10,000 camels is nothing. There are well over a million of them. I believe they export them to the middle east!

Thank you Tyler.  Looks like Zaytuna Farm hasn't been hit.  The fires nearby are currently listed as "under control".  Fingers crossed for them.

It's not so bad here on the East Coast of NZ today but last week the sun was red most of the day and you could look directly at it.

It was a huge relief to hear from Geoff. I hadn't realised I was worrying so much.

I love how he took this opportunity to share his top five drought- and wildfire-proofing tools. It really took it to a positive place.
