Hi all;
Snowy wet day outside, so I thought it would be a good day to do a little metal fabrication.
Still have to wait several months before I get to tear a rocket down. But I'm excited to start.
I will be modifying two 8" J tube rockets  to batch box this spring.   6" and an 8"
Time to start fabricating up the floor channel.
1.5 x 1.5 x 1/8" square tubing for the 6"
and 1.75 x 1.75 x 1/16"  for the 8"
I've cut a 4" piece 1/2" from the end of the tube on two pieces. These will be welded together.  The open ends will get welded shut as well.
A diamond cut out from the top , gives me a spot to tack weld on the stub riser.

Next installment will be making the stub

Lookin' good Thomas! ...Just a little confusion though on how two 8" J tube rockets turn into a a 6" and an 8" ?
Do you have a magic wand that we don't know about !?
Oh yeah...don't forget the end cap.

No, not a magic wand. Just good advice from Peter and Matt.

The 8" J with piped mass in the studio will become a 6" batch.
My 8" J , the shop Dragon  with brick bell will get an 8" batch.
Yes, I remember the end cap , I did mention it.

Update on construction of my floor channels.
Other than the little wing that caps the stub to direct air into the port. I have 2 ready to weld.
Being Montana it has been spring like for several weeks... next few day are single digits... good thing I'm still fabricating.

Once I weld up these, I need to start fabricating the door.
With wonderful free information from Matt Walker I have great plans to build from!
Two 5 x 4" pieces of Robax glass, some road case hinges & a butterfly latch.
A roll of Morgan SuperWool  1" wide by 1/8" thick gasket material.
Aluminum plate and some pop rivets.

Getting excited about this!

Back from the welders. I've got a 6" and a 7" floor channels! And a door frame.
Still need to grind them smooth, but they are almost ready to install!
Now if only I was truly ready to install them...
Soon... Very Soon!
Oh and my 1" X 12" x 24" C.F. Board arrived today while I was gone.

Those floor channels look like beauties! With the door progressing and the CF Board arriving, you may actually get a few good weeks yet of heating to test them all out.

I hope so my friend!
With the self imposed exile from the kingdom going on , the chance of me getting called to work is very low... the chance's of me agreeing to go are even lower.
So I may find the time.
