Hi there!

Just joined and am very excited to share and learn skills!

Anyone care to share advice on how to navigate these forums and/or a “permies.com 101”?

Thank you!

Hi Todd, welcome to Permies!

I'm glad you decided to join us here. Here is a link to the How Permies.com Works wiki: https://permies.com/wiki/34193/permies-works-links-threads#267492

It contains lists of links to other informational and how-to threads such as attaching a picture, what those apples by my name mean, how book promotions work, etc.

Sometimes new users are eager to share information and stories without familiarizing themselves with certain guidelines first. Here's my helpful tips for a new user such as yourself:

Certain topics, such as religion and politics for example, are reserved for discussion in forums in the cider press. You'll need apples to post there, but apples are fairly easy to earn. Learn more here: https://permies.com/t/31128/category-Cider-Press

Only ask questions, praise, or complain about moderating in the tinkering forum here: https://permies.com/f/11/tnk

So what are you into? Gardening? Animal husbandry? Food preserving? Solar energy and natural building? Other things?

Hi Todd,

Welcome to permies!!

Much to learn here, and people are encouraged to share their permaculture and homesteading experiences.

Good place to be, especially in these trying times.

How is your weather in Arizona like? Are you in late spring?

Where I am it’s a nice mid spring weather, with blooms and birds nesting.

Hey thanks everyone!

I got the wiki and general info, couldn’t find how to reply to one specific person within a thread?  Only options are “report” or “quote”.  So I’m responding to all!

I’m very much into canning and fermenting.  Whether it be beverages or the OGs sauerkraut and pickles!

I’d like to learn to be more handy and more of a green thumb this year!

Also, I’m in northern Arizona .  It’s been a very wet winter!  Can’t wait for some sun shine!

Cheers

The quote button is a good way to show a post is a direct reply to another person. After clicking the quote button, the entire message will be copied, and parts can be removed to reply to a specific sentence like I just did for example.

Still trying to quote.  Can’t figure out how to delete parts without losing the quote function.

You need a certain amount of posts before you are allowed to participate freely, probably to stop spammers. I can't remember the threshold or what they kept in reserve, but that might be why you can't pm people yet.
