This is the year we are planning on making major use of our solar over.  One problem I anticipate is our 2 dogs ,,border collie and Australian shepherd.   They appreciate a good meal.  Our back deck does not get enough sun....so locking them off of that will serve no purpose.  The best idea I can come up with at this point  is to make a 4ft high table for the oven that will be too high for them to reach. Any other ideas?

Oh yes, they are masters at getting under, over, through fences.  This is great when it comes to our livestock ....but not so good in protecting our meals.

I've been tempted to make a tall rotating stand for our oven too.  For five reasons:
  • Less bending
  • Could be tilted a bit to allow for the lower sun angles we get up here
  • Could be rotatable to follow the sun easier
  • Would get it out of the way because it could be above an existing fence (where we wouldn't be trying to walk past it)
  • Would be secured so wind won't tip it over

    Hi John;
    I'm thinking  that a four foot table should be an easy jump for a border collie or a Shepard...
    Is your oven easy for them to damage... eat your dinner ?

    Hi Thomas,

    The trade off comes with my 5'2" wife vs the reach of the dog.  Yes, I have seen the border collie clear a 44 inch gate like a high jumper (he is literally belly up as he goes over it).  It may come down to putting him in a pen while cooking.  The Australian Shepherd won't jump ....he has had knee surgery.

    Hi Mike

    I have been looking real close at a spool set on top of a fence post.

    I will suppress my every urge. But not this shameless plug:
