Hi there,
I am new to the forum, and attempting to identify my old woodstove so I can get it in working order before winter settles in. The main piece I need to address is the handle for the door... I have tried contacting several different companies to see if they can be of assistance and none of them have been able to help me, although one source thought it resembled a Heritage 2000 but couldn't offer anything further. Any information would be appreciated! I have tried looking for an ID tag in different locations on the stove but my search has so far turned up empty-handed. I have attached a couple of photos of the unit itself as well as a close-up of the handle I am trying to replace/repair.

Hi Johnny and welcome to permies!
Can't say I can help you with identifying the model of your wood stove, but wondering it I can with the repair. What exactly is wrong with the handle for the door?
Looks like a pretty simple latch setup that may be able to be fabricated or welded to get it back in business.
Send photos if you can.

Hello Gerry, and thanks for the reply.
I definitely think fabrication is possible and the likely route considering the fact I'm having trouble locating replacement parts. I am trying to picture what exactly is missing... As much play as there is in the handle and considering there are no threaded ends to tighten, I am thinking there must have been a spacer in between the washers, and the latch probably just consisted of a horizontal end piece rotated to catch that lip mounted to the stove. Thoughts/suggestions? Pics attached.

To me it looks like someone has repaired the hinge and latch before. Having someone fabricate or repair is probably your best bet.

OK Johnny,   Its an interesting mystery, so lets look at the clues from your photos.

"Latch with door open" -  I see what appears to be a flat section in the shaft. This indicates to me that it would function in the same way a pulley wheel is attached to a motor shaft to keep it from spinning freely on the shaft. So this may mean that a part (latch arm) is missing that  would fit here.

"metal lip on stove body" - That screw must do something. Looks like it might be an adjustable tensioner for the missing latch?

"Latch and metal lip as seen from the back when door is closed" - That circular wear mark on the flange appears to match the washer indicating that its either missing one or the one in the photo is in the wrong location.
- The hole in the end of the shaft has me wondering what that is for.
- The flange with the half circle in it looks like it is adjustable by the slots where those screws that hold it in place to the stove body.

No definite answers, but possibly may lead to a solution for you.

EDIT -  This kit is similar to what most searches come up with. Maybe not the right one, but the spring might be another missing piece.

This is all excellent info and insight Gerry, thanks so much! Thanks also for attaching the image of that latch kit; It does appear similar to what I think existed at some time... with that as a guideline I'll have to see about "rebuilding" it. I'll be sure to update the post with what ends up happening...
