Building an pen area for 3-4 pigs, what would be best for floor in their section of the pole barn under renovation? I have driveway base on hand to use but have been told to invest in wood or concrete. Our location is wetish clay soil. Any thoughts?

yes...concrete...preferably sloped to a drain..prolly would not hurt to go ahead and make concrete pend for the hogs...industrious bloody escape artists....seriously...best hog pens I have ever seen were concrete...with iron gates....

If you are going to confine them, it needs to be built like Alcatraz. They will destroy ANYTHING when they are bored and their waste is so corrosive it will melt concrete faster than seawater.

If you are just letting them stay there for shelter and can go out freely, then you can get away with a lot less. We protect the walls with cattle panels and leave the floor plain (sloped to drain) with old hay or straw bedding. They root the bedding around but don't dig into the floor.

Best for you or best for the pigs?

Best for you is concrete with a drain. Easy to clean.

Best for the pigs, in my humble opinion, is dirt. It's the closest to a natural environment I can provide within the confines of a pig pen.
