Interesting.
I am more guilty of this on the highway, reasoning that the mechanical action of thousands of wheels will quickly come into play .
In the woods,  an apple core would be masticated and spat out, banana peels I'm not sure of.

I am also likely to bring home peels and cores,  for my chickens!
I some times struggle with that impulse when it would be socially or physically  awkward , but  usually my desire to retain those nutrients wins out.
Of course I also try to pee at home and outside when possible, for the same basic reasons (but not involving the chickens) .

I think people obviously don’t have enough to do if this is a worry.
