I have a theory about why some folks think pie is bad for you , especially the crust. It is my attempt at pseudofreudian analysis. This is my challenge to those who believe that after eating pie you need to cleanse the toxins from your system . Pie , toxic? I have seen the films of more than one colonoscopy and saw all kinds of nasty things but never did I see pockets of filth stored in the bowels . Polyps , lesions , fistulas , perforations , carcinomas , yes. So , is this preoccupation with toxic residues in our food really signs of guilty consciences? We are 6% of the earths population and use 60% of its resources. A person
starving somewhere would gladly eat a piece of pie , crust and all , and not feel guilty or worry about toxic residue. 3 weeks ago I recieved an update on my wifes grandmothers health and status . My mother-in-law woke up and smelled baking goodies . Grandma A was up cooking cinnamon rolls for the family at 5 am . Grandma A is 105 years old and still cooking cinnamon rolls for the family. Grandma A wanted to go horseback riding on her 103,104,and 105th birthdays and she did. We should all be asking for her baked goods recipe file. So is this preoccupation with cleansing the body really a type of eating disorder tied to guilt about being the most gluttonous people in history , are we purging our souls and not our bowels ?

There's the key... Throw out that crappy frozen pre-made crust and make it from scratch with good ingredients, just like granny used to!

If Grandma A is still making Cinnamon rolls for the family at 100+ years old I sure would like to get her recipe. Will she share it?

I will ask , but I guarantee you it does not contain agave syrup and brown rice flour . Probably butter , crisco , white flour and sugar. She is definitely not a Weston Pricer. Dust Bowl refugee. Everything she ate she worked hard to get.

Wayne, I'm sure I would be happy to use her ingredients - except the crisco - that I would substitute with lard. For a once a week or once a month treat I'm sure they would be much better for me than toblerone bar I'm going to eat this evening (which is probably full of junk nowdays - I'm not going to look)
