I think farming requires constant innovation.
I think most people are pre-programmed to stop/hinder/confound innovation. To them, everything must be done in ways that were done before.
Before setting up these forums, I was frustrated at other forums because my new ideas were shouted down and the reason given was that it has not been done before.
I want these forums to be a place where people can talk about homesteading and farming that is respectful to innovation and what might be. I want these forums to be a driving force into the future. I want to learn new ideas about better horticulture, better farming, better homesteading, better
permaculture. I want to learn things that are borne of imagination as well as history.
Each farmer is an artist in seed and soil and I want to see the
art that I have not seen before. I want to hear from the shy artists as well as the obnoxious artists.
My detractors say that I will only allow people to talk on these forums about things I want to hear about, and that people are limited in how they may express themselves. I'm glad that my detractors understand me so clearly. It is difficult to talk about innovation in a sea of "citation needed", "that's bullshit!", "you're a dumbfuck", "impossible", "prove it", political hysterics, religious hysterics, and general ugliness that makes up most of the internet.
Because ick comes in infinite flavors, I cannot possibly make up rules to predict all of the possible flavors of ick. So I'll just remove anything/anybody I find icky. And only the good stuff is left behind. Sometimes I'll explain. Most of the time I won't. In time, a large group of people have formed that seem to do well within my comfort zone. And many more have left because they cannot tolerate my intolerance - perhaps those people will settle into a community that is more their style.
These forums are not for everybody. These forums are for that one person in 20,000 that is interested in the same things I am, and likes to communicate the same way I do. Of all the videos, podcasts, articles and whatever else I do, these forums are the most important. These forums are where "the bricks to build a better world" are created.
