So I have always loved rag rugs. Decided to look online to see how hard it is to make one. Wow it's super simple! Added it to my list of Covid- crafts. Finally got started the other day. My very first attempt. Not the prettiest thing in the world, but it is rather relaxing. And I can finally say "see I told you I needed to save that 20 year old ripped t-shirt" 🤣🤣🤣 Yes I'm also a bit of a hoarder. Anyway, here is the beginning of it. Will post more if anyone's interested in seeing as it progresses.

I think it's cute so far! And since this is your first attempt, consider this your "experimental" project. As you learn more about the craft, your work will only grow lovelier.
Yes, please post back with the finished rug. I'd love to see it!

Very nice! I make a lot of rag rugs, as we have a lot of old fabric kicking around and we have ceramic floors, we need rugs for bathroom and kitchen. Over time, as Stacie says, I've gotten better at it and also learned my own preferences (consistent width!!! also, you can incorporate twine into the fabric, makes a great look.) Plus it's fun to look at a rug and say, hey, that was my kid's jammies (she's 21 now).

I love rag rugs! I have one in the bathroom with a matching toilet seat cover. I make mine with old sheets from thrift stores. You're doing great...you'll love it when it's done.

And here it is currently. Almost done, since I'm just about out of t-shirts. My foot in pic for size reference.
