I have raised a number of kids, so please don’t ask me about my sudden concern. I now have 3 baby dwarf goats. I also have an eagle. The eagle has not attacked any of my live stock, though it does make an occasional circle.

The goat nursery is protected by buildings on two sides. It has a 6ft high fence. It also has a huge tree whose branches cover the nursery making an attack from the air pretty dangerous for the attacker. Do I need to take other measures?

I figure if someone from the future hasn’t tried to stop me, I can’t be messing up that bad.

What other prey is available? Is there a healthy rabbit population or other small game or fish they have easy access to?

That is how I would assess the risk. If the natural food sources are healthy, I would not worry too much.

We used welded wire panels to make an 8-foot moveable pen for our baby goats when I raised Nigerian Dwarfs. My research said that the birds of prey don't like to fly into a tightly restricted area. Of course having dogs around and mama goat too also help.

We have a number of “toys” in the fenced in area. I notice the babies are quick to go under a bench, spool, etc if so much as a hawk appears. They are safe. Yes, we also have a Border Collie and an Australian Shepherd.
