Nancy proof wrist watch

I know that these are going out of fashion, but I've never owned a mobile phone and need to keep an eye on the time.  I run a shop, and although I have most afternoons free, need to get down to close up at the end of the day.
I am hard on my watches.  I wear them from getting up to going to bed, and only really take them off for baths. Until recently I used to need a new watch every few years, but my husband bought me a casio G-shock when we moved up here and although slightly scratched it survived about ten years.  The bezel then failed and I got a cheap strap off ebay.  Much to my dismay I lost the watch last November.  I looked everywhere.  At the time I though it may have fallen off on the road when we went to a funeral last November.  I liked it so much I bought myself a genuine second hand one to replace it.
Today I was transplanting self seeded hazels on the holding and I found this just the other side of the fence by the river. (Original G Shock on right, new watch on my wrist left)

It still has perfect time (summertime rather than GMT).  So I just wanted to say how great Casio watches are, just get a genuine strap if the original fails.  This watch has survived my abuse for years and a winter outside on Skye for 5 months and I'm chuffed to bits to find it again!

I have always broken every watch I owned until 20 years ago I bought a stainless steel one. (I break the straps) It's a citizen eco drive so solar powered and I have had to have the backup battery replaced one in the time I have had it.  Part of the reason I am so hard on watches is I wear them with the dial inwards which puts a lot of pressure on the strap as you bend your wrist. the metal strap isn't showing any signs of deforming yet though. It's also waterproof to 100m I've never understood why, as I am not waterproof to 100m!

I wear my father's old Timex. Gotta love indestructible watches!

This is my stock answer when people ask:

Q: What time is it?

A: Time for you to get a watch!

I also have a Casio my wife gave me a few years back. As a teacher in classrooms it's not acceptable to always be pulling out a cell phone to check the time.

I also had a Timex that lasted many years. Both the Casio and the Timex were great, and I'd recommend either brand to anyone interested in a long-term function-oriented time piece.

Somehow my Casio has accumulated a few scratches, but it's still readable.

I always buy dear hubby a waterproof Timex with an illuminated face and hands.

Then I buy him a "Twist-O- Flex" watchband.  Those are almost something that lasts a lifetime.

I don't wear a watch.

For reminders, I have a clock on my desktop computer.  This may be something dear hubby downloaded for free.  I have it set to alarm several times a day.  My computer has no sound though I assume a computer with sound this alarm would have an audible sound.

Casio is an odd, not-so-little company and I too enjoyed their watches back when I wore one.....seem to recall them being one of the few that had a solar cell powering the battery at the time.  Because of that, I also kept hand-held Casio calculators around at home and in the lab where I worked because the solar cells always kept them topped up with power.  Peculiarly, they apparently still have a reputation for broad price-range offerings in digital musical instruments, from those you can buy in toy sections at the department store to top flight professional level keyboard instruments.  An example of the latter, in a rag-time rendition of Chopin's "Minute Waltz".

I was a welder for most of my career before switching over to Renewable Energy. I still weld on occasion, and NOTHING is harder on a watch than being a welder. In only a few months time welding sparks pit the face so bad that you cannot read the time. Still I wear G-shock watches, but don't get 10 years out of them.

Maybe when I retire (not ever likely to happen).

I bought a Tactix Bravo by Garmin in 2017. It's been with me every day for four middle eastern adventures and it's still going strong. I think that this version has a saphire face, so there still isn't a scratch on it.

I can imagine the relief and joy of finding it again, almost like reuniting with an old friend. It's those little moments of serendipity that make life interesting, isn't it?

Get ahold of a watch company and tell them you will be their pro tester.

Other than extremes of temperature, I'd be guaranteed to put a watch through it's paces!

why settle for just a Casio? You can get something that looks a lot nicer and still won’t break the bank.

I've never been one to appreciate 'designer' names. The casio is a little chunky, but you get used to that after a while (and it takes the knocks if you do need to get into tight spaces). Maybe in 20 years or so when this one might have given up I'll look and see if anything else is better then. Till then I'm still happy it does the job!
