I would strongly suggest you invest in all the safety gear, plenty of chain and a peavey is a must. Two is better. I can man handle a large log onto my sawmill deck with one in each hand fairly easily. I have a homemade bandsaw style.
I think I can do up to 32" timber, maybe a tad more, 12' long. I get help with these sized logs, they'll kill you! With one that large I just cut live edge, but I like to keep them under 30" and over 18".
Right behind my property is a stand of yellow pine that are straight and tall. There's not
enough to get a cutting crew in to do, but more than enough for my needs. I swap lumber for timber to the owner.
