A repair circle in the transition town would help people repair their appliances and contraptions, instead of throwing them away into landfill.
Their can be many repair circles/cafes/centers/services in a town. https://opencollaboration.wordpress.com/2021/01/21/how-to-create-a-repair-movement/

Only just found this post.

We have a very large community repair centre and recycling centre here in Australia.

They help out community, conduct repair and other workshops and are an amazing example of a community venture that started small then flourished into an absolute community based powerhouse.

Now working with local charities they help set up furniture, kitchen needs, bedding, food and clothing for homeless, domestic violence relocations, anyone really in need. Shoppers can also support by donating or shopping there.

They teach self reliance, repair and resilience programs You can check them out at Bower
https://bower.org.au/ and
https://www.cbcity.nsw.gov.au/resident/waste-recycling/recycling-tips/the-bower there are now smaller bower centres springing up as a result of the first community effort.

The reason I am posting here is so anyone interested can check them out for inspiration for doing similar for themselves - always helpful to get tips and info on just what community can achieve when everyone can contribute.
