Hi Maxine, welcome to Permies!
One or two of us Brits on the board, not necessarily all in the UK still. I tried to have a
permaculture allotment in Solihull when I lived there, but technically we weren’t supposed to plant anything that didn’t crop the same year. We got away with soft fruit though. We had a permanent layout of paths like spokes of a wheel, for true crop ‘rotation’ it meant that there was always a path going where you wanted to go. I miss the social side of allotment
gardening. Our neighbour Tom, was getting on a bit, but still was out almost every day doing a bit.
I guess you’ll have alkaline clay soil there, pretty much the opposite of mine, and a bit of a climate bubble in terms of winter temperatures so you can push the boundaries a bit with more tender plants. I’ve even seen footage of avocados ripening in London.
