I'm running a special on Warré hives and Perone hives. currently updating the website, so if you're quick enough, you'll get there before it reflects the special prices.
the main ideas:
40-mm red cedar (Thuja plicata)
rabbet joints, screws and glue
these are really solid hives that will last a long time. cedar is a pretty lightweight wood, though, so they'll still be manageable. the extra thickness will also reduce temperature fluctuations inside the hive. the roofs, quilts, and bottom boards on the Warré hives are thinner material, since extra thickness wouldn't be terribly useful there.
