Hello
PEP peeps! I just wanted to post about a subtle aspect of certifying BBs. When people have earned a Sand badge in an aspect and done a particular
BB within that aspect, they are then able to approve or reject that BB for others.
It's really cool and fun to validate other people's work. This also allows the program to keep growing on its own and stay free. It also helps us maintain our high standards since you won't likely want to approve things that are done poorly.
But... As we get new certifiers in the works, sometimes they might miss details or not check BB submissions over as carefully as some of the more experienced certifiers.
So please be very careful to make sure the submitter fulfilled all the requirements of the BB
If a BB is approved incorrectly, we may rescind the approval. If it's older than a couple days it will probably get grandfathered and maybe a note left on it.
We're not perfect and this is a free program so please bear with us as we try to navigate this.
Approving BBs:
- If you don't know much about the badge, please pass on approving it. Experts/hobbyists in that skill will be along shortly to approve it with a knowing eye.
- Review the minimum requirements and the required documentation (perhaps open it up in another window for easy cross referencing)
- Look carefully at their pics/video to make sure they met the requirements and did all the documentation
- If it's a BB that has a point range associated with it (especially oddball) assign it points, or better yet, leave it for someone more experienced
- Some day we hope to have a way for approvers to discuss a submission and come to agreement on how many points a submission is worth. Currently staff cumbersomely does it behind the scenes
- Feel free to make use of the "Anonymous" button when approving
