Hello Danie, this is Alex Duncan, you wrote on my post on an earlier date, my wife and I are interested in your farm and we feel that you and I can benefit from one anothers knowledge. I am a country boy from Saskatchewan Canada, and have years of experience on a grain and cattle farm so machinery isn't an issue for me to learn how to use it. My wife does have concerns about going to the states we don't have healthcare even in Canada and that is one of the biggest concerns we have, and right now we have no money to stay there. Its a stretch because there are three of us, my wife and I and my son. My permaculture knowledge could help and your knowledge of trees and propagation would be great to learn from.

I am 25 my wife 24 and my son is 18 months old... still in diapers, before searching on permies for a solution to our problem we have been looking for jobs here to have some sort of financial backing, but the job market even in Canada is not doing too well. We are at the end of our rope when it comes to going to our next place and we want to explore every option.

One question I have if we were to go there is is there any sort of job that I can get to pay for the things we need?

Thank you for replying to my post earlier
Alex

have you seen my site? I have no machinery. I have no bathroom. I have water from my creek and stored water for winter. I do have creekwater or well water and water from my springbox in my basement and from my trout stream but in winter time it gets down to stored water and water from my springbox in my basement. Its what my site shows. See it its in my signature. As for work you might find work driving amish around. There are though many drivers for them too. I guess you would have to seek work nearby. My funds need to go to development so i have very little extra for paying people for help. In winter it would be best to have one person until i get my septic system in and bathroom built. In the spring when getting water outside is easier well then i don't mind a couple. I do have a well but i am not allowed to pump the water in without having a septic system to take the water out.

I hope this explains things more clearly. Next yr i will have those things but this winter my 2nd i do not. peace

Update for those who know i have been here for 2 1/2 yrs with no bathroom:

I put in the septic tank for the grey water system / worm farm septic system i am creating. Next i will build the addition with composting toilet for the poo. That will have the shower stall in it and laundry and composting toilet and a stone/brick oven for baking breads etc. That room is only 12ft by 12ft. It will have a 5 ft tall space below the floor for the 55gallon drums for collecting poo. It will also have a concrete dividing wall to separate the cleanout of the stone/brick oven. That will be acessable from outside. The drums will roll on carts and be rotated in place as needed. Over 2 yrs time they will compost and eventually be used for tree fertilizer.

Spring is right around the corner and my garden is a wonderful 2/5 of an acre with fruit trees berries and grapes and garlic and asparagus coming in and needing help with veggie planting and building cold frames. The soil is very well fertilized and has produced many bountiful crops.

The acre across my trout stream has been seeded for a future grazing area. Its clear because it has local electric wires to neighbors running across it. I have approval for making a watering area for grazing animals by the trout stream.

The barn is almost done and soon i will be raising quail and pheasents in each side with long 17 ft flying pens 8 ft tall. Acessable to feed them from the barns interior. I may even add nesting boxes on the interior walls.

I have funds enough to slowly get these things done by summer time. I just need some help and a potential partner or partners to join me.

So far i feel like the little red hen who has done it all myself. I don't want to be that i do want to share it with someone who helps me. However, i will get it done eventually by myself.

The upstairs bedrooms of the house can be heated with floor registers and wood stoves. I and my mom sleep in livingroom due to her age and my need to care for her thru the night.

There is no place to build more buildings, except a greenhouse. We can though make an addition to the side of this building. We can also make an upstairs bathroom above the soon to be built downstairs bathroom. That could allow a person separate space on second floor except they might want to sleep outside in hot summers. Though it could have a outside deck off the 2nd floor as well on the north exposure for outside sleeping on those few hot summer nights. We could though in the mean time pump the cold air from the basement thru ducts to the 2nd floor with powerful fans or you could sleep there as i have a bed there too. The house is completely furnished. summer tents are ok though.

Yes there is much we can do here that can be done. I am slowly getting it done and would love some help / partners. Is that you?

PS: I do plan to get a horse and buggy again and use that for short trips around this amish community.

NOTE: You can be an older person as i am in my late 50's and mom is 90 but i accept all ages here. I do not accept smokers or drugs and i can feed you and we eat all types of food and so must you.

Please read and give input:

I am open to finishing this place and then selling it to the amish and then go buy the 300 acre farm in Ky but i do need help or its going to take me another yr by myself.

I would think people interested in gaining some equity would contact me for this wonderful chance. I am getting so close to being done (after 2 1/2 yrs of hard work and 67k invested so far) and if someone helps me get done then i can see the reason for then turning around selling here and buying a larger place like the farm in Ky.

Myself as someone who has built their own place i suppose the only choice new people have is going to work for an established farm for a stipend and education or join someone who was recently in their shoes and help me finish here or find a group of people and hope by chance they are hard working people and you can buy and establish your own farm with your own money of course.

If i am wrong please educate me. I am trying to work with people as it has been just me developing this farm while taking care of my mom.

If no one wants to help then why should i sell and buy a larger farm in Ky to what then have to start over on a larger farm and be again forced to do it all by myself???

The main factor here has been the bathroom or lack of one. I just recently got the tank installed and the pipes going into it and the land created for the drain field and next its just a matter of building the addition and then making a composting toilet and adding a shower / gray water suystem thru the pipe and tanks etc etc and then this propertys value will jump up.

Note i could be paying here for another 7 1/2 yrs or for an extra 350.00 a month and for 10 yrs verse 7 1/2 i could have 300 acres verse 6 acres.

It seems to me someone wanting to help me and finish and sell and buy the 300 acres which has 3 houses on it and 2 barns whereas i had a broken down house here when i started would be a great offer but then again i am not you!

Both properties have no septic but mine is almost done while the other one has no zoning or codes so septic isn't an issue for having indoor plumbing like it is here in my county in Pa.

anyway here i am sharing my heart and work making an offer to new people seeking to be a part of a farm wether large or small. Either help me here and we stay here or help me finish here and we sell and move to Ky and expand with 300 acres. Hey i am easy and life is good already but why is it so hard to get people to help? Do you all demand a bathroom with all the luxuries before you will work together?? maybe so .. time will tell.
