I spent the long winter planning our garden space and future passive solar greenhouse location (as described in this link)

That tool looks good, but I had trouble actually using it.
Is there a trick?

After I stumbled upon it, I use played around until I figured it out. I could find no training except practice and trial and error.

Trial and error, that failsafe way to waste time, get annoyed and reach for help!
