We are a couple from London, Ontario who have started our "Food Forest" about 3 years ago. We are growing 150+ edible perennials in 75' x 55' backyard in the heart of the city. We've had many successes and many fails along the way, but we've loved every minute of it. We'd love to chat with others that are involved with permaculture projects and chat about plants, but of course the first step is actually saying hello!
Your food forest sounds amazing, that is a lot of edible perennials! It would be great to see photos and hear more about it, both the successes and the fails!
We have a forest garden forum in the growies category, do start your own thread in there if you want! I’m sure I’m not the only one interested in hearing more.
Have fun diving in to Permies, we are glad you found us!
Thanks so much Saana! It's getting there, most plants are quite young still, but we have definitely had some fruit. The most delicious fruit we have is Fall Gold Raspberries (so far), biggest fail would be Oca. Not sure how we failed so miserably!
Here is a general picture, hard to see things and hard to get a good picture. I'll definitely check out the forest garden forum, and chat lots more about these things . Thanks so much for the recommendation.
Beautiful pictures of a beautiful garden! I would really want to see pictures of that "tunnel frame" (I don't know the real word for it ) in the end of the summer. I'm thinking it will be quite impressive!
I look forward to reading, and learning more about your food forest experiences. I’m starting a fairly remote homestead a bit north of Sudbury. A bit of logging will be required to get the homestead started, which is going to be a bit challenging, but then silvopasturing and food forest are my primary interests.
If you guys are interested in networking with a neighbor further north, I’m hoping to find people that can answer questions on Ontario flora and fauna. I’m coming from the US so I’m reading as much as I can about NE Ontario ecology. I’m also (obviously) into foraging, and learning to mycology cultivation.
Cheers,
Woodchuck
I would challenge you to a battle of wits, but I see you are unarmed - shakespear. Unarmed tiny ad:
