Have constructed several hugelkultur beds this winter. Most of which are incomplete. Should I add some diluted urine to the unfinished beds? Wouldn't this help up the nitrogen before I finish covering to plant? Am I way off here?
i dont know about any contents or anything but urine is great for putting on the garden. i think there is several threads on that. but i would think it couldnt hurt anything.
you wouldnt even have to dilute it. you can just pour it on. though diluting it would probably make it easier to spread more evenly on a large area.
i've been wanting to start collecting myself. though my family thinks i'm nuts with alot of other things so probably end up just saving from myself. just havent got a good bucket at the moment to keep it in for dumping.
Urine is a valuable fertilizer, containing much more of the nitrogen processed though the human body than does humanure. For men, any convenient jug will do to containerize it to accumulate a useful amount....milk jugs, bleach jugs, etc. A woman can sometimes use a wide-mouth plastic container, preferably one with a tight screw-top lid. My partner has back issues so I've rigged a geriatric toilet stand with a covered bucket, which goes daily to compost. Don't flush away this valuable resource! During the growing season, quite a few plants benefit from a direct topdress of urine diluted four or five to one in water. All brassicas, nightshades, and corn especially....
Another issue for my partner is the need to wipe, bringing with it the danger of fecal contamination. A bucket permits the toilet paper to join the pee, and they can then go together to the humanure grade compost. We both try not to pee in the humanure buckets, making them lighter and easier to process....
my personal solution for not freeking out my wife and neighbors is to pee in a big cup while Im in my basement then just take a stroll out to the garden spot of choice and toss it. I leave the cup on the work bench for future use. Its been working so far. My blueberries get the most of my "fruits" We shall see if their fruits are better this season.
