[center]FARM APPRENTICESHIP PROGRAM
April 15th, 2010 to October 15th, 2010
HANDS-ON PERMACULTURE LEARNING IN BEAUTIFUL TAOS, NEW MEXICO
The site is 5+ acres of fertile bottomland located 15 minutes walk from historic Taos plaza. A developing urban farm this season will be the first for implementing the Permaculture design that includes almost 1.5 acres of annual production, complex orchard and forest garden, windbreaks, two ponds, a connecting acequia, perennial herb production, greenhouse, and structures.
THIS PROGRAM IS STRONGLY BASED IN THE DESIGN, NEEDS, AND RUNNING OF AN URBAN FARM WITH MULTIPLE ‘MARKETS’. FROM DESIGN TO IMPLEMENTATION; FROM SEED TO HARVEST TO food preservation AND SEED STORAGE; FROM COMPOST MAKING TO GREENHOUSE PRODUCTION; FROM HARVEST TO MARKET, THE APPRENTICE WILL COVER IT ALL.
TWO FOR THE PRICE OF ONE
Our sister program, the HOMESTEAD APPRENTICESHIP PROGRAM, is located on 6 wilderness acres north of Taos. Its primary focus is creating a sustainable homestead based on permaculture, with an emphasis on appropriate technologies. Through site exposures, work exchanges, design team collaborations, joint teaching opportunities, shared field trips, and other yet to be discovered/created possibilities we will broaden and deepen our learning opportunities.
