I tried making a little hot pad cover for the skillet door handle, since it is a bit awkward to maneuver with our normal, bigger hot pad. The casserole dish lid door got hot enough to burn wool, but the skillet door doesn’t seem to be getting that hot. Unfortunately, I did not take into account how close it was to the glass window in the stove, and it got singed, so it can’t stay on all the time, but it seems to be working well otherwise.

And the draft excluder is finally finished!

I'm sorry for the dumb question, but can you rotate the pan so that the handle isn't right in front of the glass window?

Mike,

You can orient it differently, but due to the angle (the skillet is not on a fully vertical axis) and shape of the stove, it’s less stable and more difficult to grab.

More needlework projects for the Abbey. The first is a small window insert to cork the single-pane window in the back door, partially stuffed with wool. The second is a small sachet I made, with the idea of throwing it in with the wool as I stuff the window insert, the thought being that you could use pleasantly scented and/or pest repellent herbs and essential oils, but I have no idea if there will be any/much effect. I would have used muslin or gauze if I’d had it, but all I had was an old fat quarter. The third photo is the beginning of another draft excluder with some merino yarn from my stash (thanks for the yarn, Mom!).

It's always good to put in a handful of dried lavender flowers. They have a nice scent and repell insects.
