Hi Everyone,
I noticed in regional there is just one section for California. I’m really curious who’s on the site in the area I am in. I’m in a charming county in Northern California, called Nevada County. I love it here. I’d love to connect with local peeps.

Ash:

We are in Nevada county as well! I have been trying to locate other Permies here for years. As retired people we travel a lot, but it would be fun to meet for coffee sometime in town.

I guess I will out myself... I am in Nevada County as well. Lived here all my life, minus a 12 year misadventure across the globe, hahaha.

Anyways, I am so busy and YEARS behind on social commitments it seems. I probably can't meet at Caroline's or anything but I did want to say hi!

Hi Dan and Debbie!

It’s nice to “meet” you both. It would be lovely to meet for coffee sometime! Happy to know there are a few of us here in the same county 😊 Let me know if you’d like to do a meetup.

I'm interested in coordinating an adventurous off-grid cooperative development project in the county. Very encouraged by yesterday's Supervisors decision to allow tiny houses on wheels as a permitted primary dwelling on rural property there. Happy to discuss in more detail with anyone curious or wanting to support such an effort!

I don't live there currently, but have some connections and a draw to spend more time soon.

I got to spend some time exploring, visiting friends, and looking at a nice large scenic property near Ananda Village that's on the market last week. Really encouraged by what I saw and learned, and hope to pull some pieces, people, and plans together to enable a creative project and demonstration site there. Welcome any discussion with others here curious or looking to collaborate!

Grass Valley here too...I ran a permie guild in humboldt years ago. I know the native pant folks used to gather regularly at 1849...we could try something similar to start. Any mention of permaculture around here gets pretty mixed reception due to the influx of permie washing in way-too-hip-for-black-rock Nevada City. =) It's still a thing though, we exist.

Would be great to hear more about Nevada County projects and peeps. Hit me up if anyone wants to collaborate...uprooted from my last scene and ready to mulch myself into somewhere new.

Hi again,

I'd like to try out straw bale gardening on top of hard packed clay. I'm wondering if anyone knows of a good source of local bales from someone that hasn't treated them with pesticides, etc? I went by the Colfax Farm and Country Store and they said that their bales were conventional and my best bet was finding a local farmer that bales their own and knows that they aren't treated and has some spare for sale.

I figured I'd check in with the local permies crowd and see if anyone has had luck sourcing non-cancer-causing/"organic"/non-chemically-streated straw bales or if know of someone that does and could let me know how to reach them it would be much appreciated. Thanks!
