Hi Permies forum members,

I've heard of Permies for years, but have never really dug into it. I live with my wife and kids in the PNW. Closer to Montana than to the Pacific Ocean.

I've read through the Humanure Handbook and am working on getting it setup. I'm actually ready to go, just need a good source of cover material.

Professionally, I have a tech background and it's been interesting seeing how modern technology is largely so harmful. Hoping to turn my life around to some extent, living off the land more. I'm trying to avoid plastics, polyester, etc. It sounds like even our vehicles are loaded with flame retardants in the seats.

We have goats, chickens, some solar, shore power, and we're fighting with cloth diapers.

While modern technology has probably put us in a permanently ecologically damaging point, it at least offers the ability to communicate, learn, and share. Hopefully we can come out of this with more skills and techniques as a species, if everything ever comes crashing down.

Welcome from another PNW person, looking forward to hearing about your projects and how they go.  I think that, though tech can cause problems, it could also bring about sollutions if we use it in a wise way.

Hi Theodorin,
Welcome to Permies!

And welcome to a growing number of people from a tech background who have gotten into the permaculture/homesteading movement.  Check out this link where I was trying to find out just how many tech people there are around here.
