I have been living in my rv while rehabbing the house on the new farm. After towing the rv to the closest dump station once I decided to carry buckets of the black water and dump it on the fruit trees instead. It's 95% diluted urine with only small percentage of solids from when the mrs can't make into the house toilet in time. Little to no paper.

Are there any health concerns from doing this with the fruit in the fall? I thought since nothing will touch the fruit it should be ok.

You are correct. Pathogens in humanure cannot translocate into and through the vascular systems of plants (unlike chemicals!) I would however at least trench it in or put clean heavy mulch over top. Flies are a main vector....they land on humanure and then come directly to food, fruit, etc. Low-growing plants are vulnerable to being splashed by heavy rain too. And beware of where runoff may go in a heavy rain. All of these and other reasons make composting or direct burial the best practices....

I recommend reading Joe Jenkins Humanure Handbook. It's on Amazon or a free version is avsilable. He has 30 years of experience of thermophilic composting of human feces/urine. He does a 2 year compost cycle.

He also has web forums and markets the lovable loo toilet. I have found his advice invaluable.

Thanks for the replies. I hadn't thought about flies transmitting.

I'll second Bill's suggestion to read the Humanure Handbook. If you are already dealing with buckets of urine it will make the whole business substantially more pleasant for you!
