Hello everyone,

We are a couple from Northern California seeking a community to live, learn, and work in starting in the Fall. We would like a place where we can continue to learn about growing our own food and medicinal plants and raising animals, while living at a natural pace in sync with the land. We are spiritual people, especially interested in permaculture and self-sufficiency, so any knowledge and skills we are eager to learn! However, we are also capable hard workers, and are fine with receiving a little guidance and then working on our own since we both have experience working independently. We love to hike and be outside, and we enjoy socializing and also our quiet time.

Aaron is 23 with a BA in Drama. He spent 4 years in college working in the scene shop building sets which has given him some carpentry knowledge and has started his own landscaping/yard working business. He is currently working as an apprentice for a season at an organic orchard (Green Cedar Farms), where he has been harvesting blueberries, cherries, apples, peaches, pears, plums, and grapes; and has been helping sell these goods at farm markets and around the farm. He has also worked in an Alaskan salmon cannery which has taught him the value of keeping a positive attitude while working in harsh conditions. When he was 16 and 17 he was a camp counselor, nature director, and crafts director at Camp St. Michael, a outdoors backpacking camp that he has attended each summer since he was 12. Throughout his time at Camp St. Michael he gained a profound love for nature which has inspired him to pursue any avenue that promotes harmony with the planet. Farming sustainably is one such avenue. Mindfulness is another. He is also interested in learning the alternative psychological healing modality of Neuro-Linguistic Programming (NLP).

Jessica is 22 and has WWOOFed extensively in Western Europe, mostly on small family owned properties. She has basic gardening, animal, and wood working skills. She has some medicinal plant and natural medicine knowledge and is eager to learn more! She loves cooking from the garden, making medicinal salves and tinctures, and being outdoors and working with the land in general. She has experience working with kids and also leading and organizing projects and activities as she was a head WWOOFer on a farm in Germany. Right now she is leading wilderness trips for youth, and is excited to continue her pursuit of outdoor education. She believes teaching children at an early age how to respect nature and live consciously is one of the keys to bettering our wold.

We are flexible with the start and end date, but unfortunately because Jessica is leading trips and Aaron is working as an apprentice at Green Cedar Farms we won't be able to start before October. When we are finished we would like to settle into the farm and community life! Ideally we would like a kind of apprenticeship set up, including meals and accommodation as well as a small stipend, but we are flexible so don't hesitate to throw something else out there! Since we are looking for a place into the winter season we are looking mostly in CA and the Southwest.

Let us know if you think we would be a good match for you or have any recommendations!!

Blessings,
Jessica and Aaron

Summer/Fall Apprentice Opportunity Clear Water Sanctuary A cooperative Permaculture Homestead 20 miles northwest of Olympia WA
An apprentice would experience natural building including earth, cordwood and roundwood construction, reciprocating roofs, integrated greenhouses, barn-building and portable animal shelters, plasters and various earth recipes, off-grid water and energy systems, no-till forest gardening methods, pole-fencing, wild-crafting and a lot more. This will be a well-rounded and intensive learning experience in the sustainable arts. This needs to be a good match both ways. It’s a great opportunity for just the right folks wanting to learn a lot in a short time…by intensive hands-on experience. Here’s what we have to offer: besides the mentorship* (please see to learn more about the mentor) in Permaculture and natural building, a LOT of homestead skills will be in use and taught along the way. We can also offer to share an old-style farmhouse on a 100 acre cattle ranch nearby, complete with electricity, phone, clean hot & cold water, full kitchen and even a small hot tub we can set up. The ranch has a beautiful river that flows by. There’s also camping on Clear Water Sanctuary land, 25 acres of forest in-holding with a large clear, cold, creek that runs through. There’s room for 2-4 folks. The exchange covers the places to stay, a few bulk food staples, and intensive mentorship. Apprentices need to cover most of their own food and basic needs. This can be seen as a great deal because many students are paying lots of money to learn these skills in places that are more established. For a hearty soul eager to deepen their Permaculture design experience and broaden their natural building horizons, this could be a golden opportunity.
