Youtube shorts don't want to embed - can we make a work-around?

I hope I don't get too confused posting this...

I've noticed that youtube shorts don't embed properly.

If I use the normal way they come out like this

The url is https://www.youtube.com/shorts/U7C5-E9q4j8

BUT, if you take out the shorts/ bit and replace with watch?v=  to make  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=U7C5-E9q4j8  it will embed properly.

At least it does sometimes.  It seems to have not worked, unless I remove the first one. It's confusing...

I can empathize with you.

Currently, I only know of the editing the URL workaround. I wish Youtube would just allow you to not automatically make things into shorts.

yeh, youtube doesn't want shorts embedded.  There is a workaround tutorial somewhere here that Nicole wrote.  I'll see if I can find it.

Trying again, because in the original post it seemed that it didn't work if it was the second video in a post...

OK, what I was really wondering is if it's possible for a bit of code to be written that strips the relevant bit out if it sees the 'shorts' string and swaps it out for the other string, so it will embed.

Yeah, that would be super handy, and probably not too hard to code, since you just take the video ID number and put it after https://www.youtube.com/watch?v= .
