I have some near new socks. They are the "no show" type. I change shoes several times a day depending on the task and these socks try to come off my feet every time I pull a shoe off. We also do not wear shoes in the house so anytime I go in and remove my shoes, I have a sock hanging half off my foot. A very frustrating experience, I can assure you.

I have "quarter height/crew socks" that I don't have issues with and I am sticking with them. The ankle/no show ones were a gift and have only been worn once. I have 6 pairs.

I am looking for some ideas on how to use them, not as socks, since I can't return them. We have young kids so maybe some craft idea if nothing else makes sense. Thanks in advance.

I've got a small bucket of no-show socks that are exclusively used with lightweight sneakers in the summer. That's the only time I've found them to be good.

These are things I've done with socks in many sizes and shapes:

They work well slipped over a 'swiffer' (or even a stick), to use instead of the disposable duster things, for floors, walls, and even ceiling fans.

Great rainy-day or sick-day crafts for kids could be hand puppets, or stuffies.

They're perfect for packing glasses, jars, vases, or ornaments/decor for storage or moving.

With a drawstring run through the top to make a small bag, I've tucked in crochet hooks and other oddball items.

swiffer or duster/cleaner (stuck on your hand)
cut crosswise into loops as ponytails or to hang things (trellising tomatoes in the garden)
snip off toe and use as a wrist gaiter (with or without gloves)

(i feel your pain, i recently replaced all these socks of mine like that with ones that have the little roll on the heel so they don't get lost inside my sneakers, it makes me stabby to have to keep stopping during a run to pull up my stinking sock!)

I would pass them on.
I know some people wouldn't wear used socks, but I certainly would.

If you put on a pair of rubber gloves, the hospital kind work best, you can then put the sock on over your hand for applying stain or poly to wood projects.

me too!
My low tops socks are actually from the thrift store and I wear them over my regular socks indoors to keep the inside pair cleaner and for added warmth in the winter...have not tried them with shoes as I expect they would do the same thing mentioned in the OP's original post.

All good ideas, but get the kids to make small pom-poms or tassels and attach them to the back of the 'socklets' to prevent them trying to crawl into the sneakers/shoes etc.
