I have a source of free aluminum 3" poles up to 21 ft long. I have been planning on making a several chicken enclosed runs/paddocks with them around a central barn. 10ft wide x 20 to 40ft long x 6 ft high. I was explaining my plan to my husband today and he told me it would be a huge attraction for lightning. The pens would be under a thinned out area of very tall hardwood trees. 50 plus ft high. Is this a concern? Will the trees being around it deter the lightning? Any ideas on how to not attract lightning if I use this free building source? We are in an area that can get quite a bit of lightning when a storm goes through. Will a lightning rod help out in this situation? Any input is appreciated. Thanks.
