Soay Sheep

I own only .6 acres and would like to raise livestock.

Anyone raise soay sheep? What do you have to do to keep them healthy? Anything?

I am planning on supporting them with much more than just grass. I've included a picture of my thoughts.

How many sheep do I need for a self sustaining herd?

Your county agriculture extension agent should be able to tell you how many animal units land in your area will support. If you have access to woodchips in your area you can greatly improve your grass by spreading woodchips on the higher part of your land. As water runs down slope it will wash worm tea out of the chips and fertilize the plants. I will pm you link to my youtube channel and you can see the grass on the downslope side of my garden is neon green.

Soay sheep are generally a nightmare to keep as they are pretty feral. They are very difficult to tame so working with them can be difficult and they will escape. They can jump very high and run very fast.

I picked up two soay two weeks ago. They much calmer than my kats. I have had them in a large pen, so they could get use to the sights and sounds of the farm before they go out to the big pasture.
