I am a new cob rookie and I am filled with enthusiasm to begin a project. I would love to build a small cob structure using the bones of an existing steel pole barn with a poured concrete floor. Is it possible to build directly over the poured floor or is digging a trenched foundation still required? If I choose to use this area as an open patio retreat; building a garden wall instead over the existing floor, is the answer the same?
(be gentle, I'm learning and appreciate the help)

Kristy McClain : Welcome to permies.com, With over 22,000 fellow members world wide, you should be able to come here 24 / 7 and find someone who wants

Because of the weight we are talking about here a trenched foundation is pretty much a given, with that comes a strong recommendation for a French Drain-
'Running to Daylight' !

Unfortunately Concrete made with portland cement wicks water, With a small slab you might get away with a plastic membrane or sealer of some kind, however
a failure of that material could easily allow enough water to seep into the cob to weaken its structure.
