So i have been catching up on podcast and in the "review of chemerical" I heard paul talk about homemade "less toxic" lipstick. My girlfriend is taking cosmetology at the local tech school . SHe's interested in maybe working as much as possible with natural products. I just ordered her a copy of Idiots guide to natural beauty products. Are there any more books on the topic anyone can suggest. I REALLY WOULD LOvE TO FIND A complete kit for her to make some kinda product. any suggestions?
On a side note Geoff in part two of the most recent podcast talks about slowly exposing your partner to permiculture. She has been exposed since we have been together, but she hasnt found a niche of interest of her own yet. SHe can repeat all my points of interest but Im hoping she can find her own and teach me. Maybe in the future I could produce her raw materials.
just an Idea.

For her own use or to sell to others as a business?

If it is to sell, there are a gazillion rules that you have to dance around. Lip balm is one set of regulations, lip stick is another. Lip balm is easy to sell legally, lip stick is not. Lip balm cannot have a coloring or anything "cosmetic" but it can have natural flavors, some of which can be colorful.

www.thesage.com is a good place to start for all things natural-ish beauty products--soaps, lotions, lip balms, etc.

Good luck.

Well, for herself she can make just about anything. No rules against poisoning yourself.

My wife makes some stuff to sell, it is a struggle figuring out the rules and regs and actually finding good information. It took a few years of learning and practice.

She rarely wears make up. But the goal of making the makeup in house or ordering material would be to make cosmetiic products similiar to the documentary ( which I did check out a few mins of yesterday) that where way less toxic and even some that are editable. Crazy idea.
