I'll start.

I am a Charm School dropout.

Most people's first reaction to this statement is, "where the heck did you find a charm school in the first place?"

Their second reaction is to laugh themselves blue because my parents were silly enough to think that I could ever be made to be "charming".

You've got to start practicing on snakes.
Once you can charm a snake, graduate to people.

Actually it was snakes that caused me to be placed in a Charm School in the first place. After years of running wild in Africa and doing things like catching snakes, examining elephant piles and following dung beetles, my family returned to the US. Where I was shunned by my American schoolmates - I was just too weird and definitely not "girly" enough. I point blank refused to squeal when I saw a bug (completely ridiculous - I never got they were doing it so some boy they liked would squash it for them). Or fuss with my cuticles - they made us do that in charm school - I had to fight the urge to roll my eyes.

So you see, snake charming I can do. The rest remains a mystery.

A few people do, but I don't, and I'm not especially eager to go leaving bread crumbs .

I'll do a good one ...

It was the summer of 1978 and my girlfriend was in the dance squad for our high school, but was also an intern at the local daily newspaper. The team was getting ready to perform in our town for a civic event and she wanted me to take photos of their performance since she was performing and couldn't do her intern duties of covering the event. So, there I was in my typical tee-shirt and cutoffs ... and in the '70s our cutoffs were very short. Anyway, they were doing their routines and I was shooting away with her camera. Then, when they were all done, they posed in a formal team kind of shot and I got in front of them ... all 24 of my high school colleagues and I'm trying to get the shot from multiple angles and then I drop to one knee to get one last shot and ... well, because I'm not wearing any underwear ... all my junk comes falling out of my shorts in front of 24 high school girls all stearing at me. It was an interesting start to the school year, let me tell you that much.

Speaking of karaoke, I love music, but couldn't carry a note if I had to.
One night, I got up and joined the 3 Italians singing a Tony Bennett song.
Later, the MC tried to con me into doing a solo.
After much hemming and hawing, I asked if she had "Never On Sunday".
After a few minutes of searching, she said "Yes, I have it."

In a moment of panic, I asked "In Greek?" To which the answer was "No."
Phew. Saved by the bell.

About a month later, she cornered me, and said "I've found a Greek copy."
So, begrudgingly, I got up and listened to the intro.
There was a Greek couple in the joint, and they began singing along.
I beckoned them to join me, and we did a trio.

(The Greek couple ended up inviting me to a Greek party they were going to later.)
