We have an action packed workshop planned for August 5th-16th in Austria with Sepp Holzer. Participants will visit his new farm the Holzerhof, the Krameterhof, and several Permavitae sites in Ubelbach.

The Synergy of Land and Water | A terrace and pond, agro-forestry and aquaculture ecosystem at the Holzerhof

I was blown away to see each of these sites in person last year, and this year’s trip is shaping up to be even better. The first 4 days are spent with Sepp Holzer at the Holzerhof. This is followed by a full day tour of the Krameterhof with his son Josef. I highly recommend a visit to these sites for those of you that have not experienced them. Reading the books and watching the videos was a very important experience for me. Learning from Sepp himself took it even a step further. But seeing these concepts as a living example, all of the beauty and bounty that comes from working with nature, that was one of the most profound experiences of my life.

We then spend the next 5 days with Permavitae taking part in various workshops throughout Ubelbach. We take what we've learned and put it into action, working as a group to plan a landscape. This is followed by a tour of a traditional building museum and then a no treatment beekeeping workshop. We’ll learn how to use and maintain a scythe, enhance seasonal fruits of nature and wild game, traditional shoe-making and more.

This is a testimonial from Permie Mary Yett about last years trip:

Mary Yett wrote: I had read Sepp's books, watched his videos and even took a great course with him in Duluth -- BUT - Nothing can compare to actually seeing and walking around 2 functional family farms set up by Sepp -the famous Krameterhof and also Sepp's new farm, Holzerhof.

Holzerhof had been set up 10 years before by Sepp for a client who did nothing to maintain it for a decade. Now Sepp owns it and has recently moved there. Even without care for all those years and in the middle of a terrible drought, it was green, lush and productive. There were abundant walnuts, hazels, chestnuts, grapes, apples, apricots, elderberry, sorbus, pears and much more ripening. All the neighboring farms were crispy brown with crops dead in the field. What a contrast.

I came home more inspired than ever to make my farm look and function like one of Sepp's. My fellow travelers on this course also continue to inspire me. I think I learned as much from them as from the course itself. I am deeply grateful for having had this experience.

This year’s trip looks like it will be even better than last year. I’m very excited to again visit the world's most vivid examples of Holzer Permaculture in action. The life and abundance available by working with time and nature is awe inspiring. If you are able to join us I highly recommend the trip!

Here are some photos I took when I took a tour there about 4 years ago:

It is a very pretty place. I assume the workshop with Zach is in English. If you do go on a tour, see if you can find an English translator; I would have gotten more out of it and annoyed less people asking for translations had I done that. Finally, someone once recommended to me to have the USDA forms on hand and completed in case US Customs gives you a hard time for any seeds you may want to bring back with you.

May the best Permie win!

I have just recently discovered Sepp Holzer´s work (through the Permies daily-ish emails, of course.... YAY Permies!! ) and it has already changed my way of looking at what I´m doing on my land. Videos, his book "Desert of Paradise", the permies.com forum are a huge part of my life at this time. Now this course comes along and my piggy bank is not ready for it. Well, I guess it´s just a matter of continuing to save the pennies and waiting for next year´s workshop. At any rate, thanks to Zachary Weiss for all the information about the workshop; I suspect I will be dreaming about the next one until this time next year!! I live in the south of Spain, so it won´t be quite so expensive to get to Austria from here.... I hope those who go to the workshop will post their impressions on this thread, that would be great!!

I met Sepp Holzer in Gimli, Manitoba, Canada. It was a delight meeting and learning from this great, kind farmer.
I am hoping Sepp Holzer and his team of expert premies will return to Canada to my unorganized farm to create
A Dream Come True Paradise for me.

I love to visit Sepp's two farms in Austria this year. I need to learn much more about bone sauce, raised beds,
crater gardens, micro gardens. I long to plant lots more tropical fruits and berries in my beautiful Bowen Island
Food forest. It will be a dream come true for me to see Sepp's farms and to learn more from this great farmer who
works with Nature. I want to be a farmer just like Sepp!

Just to clarify I am organizing the trip helping facilitate but the workshop will not be with me, rather Sepp himself and his son Josef Holzer, as well as Permavitae and several other instructors from Austria. The workshop will be in English however, we have two great translators that will accompany us on the trip.

Anything I have seen from Sepp Holzer is awesome and by now I have attended 5 seminars.
Last year, after being in California in Spring, I went to Austria during the summer to be on the Holzerhof and the Krameterhof. It was crucial that I was finally standing on a Sepp Holzer model farm. It made all the difference in understanding and FEELING it. Walking on kale and other greens following along the terrasses while just admiring all the fruits on the trees and bushes and tastings some of them, is an incredible experience. And I am going this year again, so I can see the changes from last year to this year!
I really hope that much more people will start understanding what difference it makes, when a project is planned properly. Sepp sets it up, so once he starts planting after having the property shaped optimally to keep the water on the land, it's easy in the future to build up and maintain. I really learned a lot from his DVD "Desert of Paradise" and yes I had to watch it several times to get the little details. But I got it! Having this huge concrete arch-gravity dam draining all the water out of the area above and dehydrating the surrounding and endangering everything in the valley as well, versus helping to fill up the earth with water and holding the water on the land and possibly even re-viving springs with Sepp's decentralized-systems, his way of creating a water landscape. It's a huge difference and the main thing to understand. This is what separates Sepp's work from everybody I have seen working with land creating permaculture paradises. He really focusses on keeping the water on the land by creating wonderful water landscapes.
I attached a nice plan he and his architect created for a future Anastasia-inspired Eco-Village. Maybe I have to move to Russia, so I can live there and have my own property (2.5 acres) - all these parcels with the houses on the map are these type of properties.
If you have not seen Sepp's movie and read the Anastasia books by Vladimir Megre (ringing Cedars of Russia), get on it. This is the only way, how I can see that we can successfully help to change the world.....and maybe I am just dreaming too big?
Maybe I will see you in Austria? We can talk more then... check it out holzeragroecology.com (and for last years participants we do have a special offer ask via the HAE website, if you are interested).
