Beavers in the UK ?

Bevers are back in England but the govt wants to get rid of them !

Hi David,

This fine folk have been back in the U.K. (Scotland I believe) for a while now...Just don't really understand the fuse over a few escaped ones. If disease was a worry...trap them...test them... then release if the tests are negative (or treat them.) Too many folks get their shorts in a know over these aquatic (and native) rodents...They can be a nuisance when overpopulated...the U.K. and Europe would be lucky to have that problem again...It would mean thing are getting back to the way they had been before the "heavy hand" of humans out of control took over.

I dont think it would ever be possible to be over populated with bevers in the UK as they are so shy and the UK is so full of people they would be frightened off most of the land .
We have bevers near us here in France . I have never seen one but have seen evidence of their noctural visits by the river bank . We do have coypu/ragondin as well and they are a pest although I am told they make an acceptable Paté.
