I've had an ongoing situation with my homestead operation where carpenter bees love to make their condominiums in the wood of my rabbit hutch/chicken coop. For the most part we (the rabbits and I) have just accepted them as a part of life, acknowledging that we need all the pollinators that we can get. They sometimes get to be a bit too eager to populate the place with life. I just found a new member of my little community who seems happy with the situation. A huge banana spider has built a network of webs between the coop and a nearby oak and I see at least one carpenter bee already ensnared. This golden silk orb weaver (as wikipedia calls it) has a golden web alright and between it and the iridescent smaller web orbs throughout the network of guard strands, it makes a very interesting display! I really need to upgrade my kindle fire to a model with a camera! That thing is gorgeous! Oddly enough.
