Anybody know of a reasonable livestock guardian dog that is hypoallergenic?

Thanks,
Dan

In general, if your allergies are so sensitive that an LGD outdoors is aggravating them, even the low dander breeds are going to bug you, I suspect.

Hello, Dan, did you ever find the dog you were looking for, or anything close? I would like an Anatolian shepherd but they're not hypoallergenic.

Nope. I found several useful livestock guardian dogs (LGDs) and several hypoallergenic dogs. Unfortunately, the intersection of the two groups is nada.

So, I'm considering livestock guardian llamas as an alternative.

I would love to hear how the llama works out if you get one! I considered it for a while but never pursued it. We actually just got an Anatolian puppy this weekend! He is mostly going to be for the chickens though so I may get another guardian for the goats. They do not seem too fond of the puppy so it might just be a llama...

I had no idea llamas would guard livestock! I'm looking for an animal that will protect my 12-pound terrier from eagles. (That may sound like an odd desire, but bald eagles do pick up dogs that size, and everyone's told me to get a larger companion dog.) I hope these animals will see my dog as a creature worthy of guarding. And perhaps we'll get chickens too. I had thought a Komondor, or Hungarian sheepdog, might be hypoallergenic, or at least moreso than other breeds (if one can be hypoallergenic by degrees).

Oh shoot. I just read that they're naturally aggressive toward dogs. That makes sense!

Tick check! Okay, I guess that was just an itch. Oh wait! Just a tiny ad:
