I read the "Die Fleas!" article and didn't realize it said to be sure to get "food grade" DE. I went to my local hardware store and purchased Safer brand DE by Omri. It's in a yellow bag. I proceeded to spread it around my back yard and parts of my house, while wearing a mask and gloves. I came back to check something in the article and that's where I saw the statement about food grade. I quickly began to vacuum my house and I raked and hosed down my yard for fear of harming my two dogs. My question is did I do damage to my dogs with this brand? No where on the package does it state that it's to be used in pools. I feel horrible!

I don't think that you need to worry.
While the food grade is safest for application to pets, the other grades should be fine for dusting around the home, and in the yard. Just avoid it anywhere that the pets would eat or breath it.

I also went around to all the huge ant hills in my yard (mostly fire ants, which nothing kills - just pisses them off

A good trick worth trying is to pour soda water into their hills.
The CO2 in carbonated water will release inside of the hill, displacing the oxygen, thus suffocating the little bastards.
