Home made bee hives

How about a thread with the bee hives that you made. Just post your pictures of your home made beehive and lets kick some ideas around. Here is the bee yard.



I just put lime on the ground in order to kill the hive beetle larva that burrow into the ground.

I just started these hives so I now have to feed now that the honey flow is slow, and my bees ran out of honey. I made this feeder.



it attatches to the sides of my hives, as seen in the first picture.

Do you have a record of how much honey you get from a hive (an estimate)?

Well it depends on the hive, what plants are around, and much more. In the first year you should not expect to harvest honey. but after the hive is established you can expect to get about 50lbs of honey in a year. give or take 100 lbs.

Top Bar Bait Hive

A year and a half ago I made an "eco floor" which is suppose to mimic the environment inside a hollow tree. Seems to be working fine. The only issue is that the bees continue to build the comb below the frame which makes it hard to put the bottom frames in another hive  without cutting off the excess comb.

Here are mine.
I build Easter European style hives (deep horizontals).

Here is my nuc-wintering box (small hives inside a big hive).

Could somebody please explain what components are necessary for a hospitable bee hive? Size, entrances, access, etc..
