Hello Paul or Nicole. After signing up for bootcamp, Paypal sent me back to Permies, which then gave me an error (using Chrome and Gmail). My credit card got charged, and I got an email from Permies to complete my purchase which I did, but I don't know if I'm missing some part of the process. I read something earlier in this thread about a questionnaire that needs be filled out. Can you send please send that to me if it is required?

If the payment went through (which it sounds like it did), then Paul will be sending an email with the questionnaire to whatever email address is linked to your paypal account. Make sure to check that email, especially your junk folder. Paul's super busy, so it might take a day. If you haven't heard anything from him in a few days, post here again and I'll make sure we get it figured out!

Any chance that you have a screen shot of the error?

Here's another link for one dollar:  https://permies.com/pp/1/testing-bootcamp-waiting-list-thread

Can you duplicate the error and post a screenshot?  I will refund your test monies.

Unfortunately, I clicked the back button too quickly before taking a screenshot of the error. It was red text that said something along the lines of "error: something went wrong, and we were not able to proceed, please go back to the page you came from".

Also, apologies if I came off as impatient by posting about not getting the questionnaire. I assumed it would be automatically sent after payment, not manually sent a bit later, so I wasn't sure if something went wrong.

Devaka, the email said:

"Complete Your Purchase at Permies

Hello Pierre Michael,

It looks like you have made a payment at permies in guest mode (without logging in). To complete your purchase, please sign up or log in to permies through this link:

If you have already signed up or logged in to permies right after making the payment, you may safely ignore this email."

Somebody signed up for the bootcamp recently and asked how soon they might be able to come.  I wrote ....

I think around the beginning of january we will announce for a date in
early feb.   You will probably be able to join in early feb.   If you
skip in early feb, my guess is that your next chance will be late
summer or early fall - because I think most of the people on the list
are waiting to come march through august.

Sometime in early january we will be sending out an announcement for two openings on February 7.

The work trade stuff is set up so that the people at the top of the list will probably come out for the work trade on March 7, so this will probably be the last time for a while that people can sign up now and get in to the bootcamp - because next time, people at the top of the waiting list will probably exercise their wisdom at getting on the waiting list early.

In order to be respectful to others on the list, and respectful to those of us here that are trying to juggle all-the-things, please only reply if you are absolutely certain that you can arrive at the designated time and put in at least one week.

We are trying to give everybody at least three weeks of advance notice so that the people coming here have plenty of time for a smooth transition and those of us here can have a smooth transition.   A few people have made the mistake of thinking that we are some sort of resort with a full time staff standing by to accommodate their every whim - and we don't have that.

This post is an attempt to prepare the people on the list, and to possibly invite a few others to add their name to the list that we will be sending another round of invitations soon.  So that people might know whether they want to reply with a "yes" when the email goes out.

I recall that backing the "Build a Better World" kickstarter at $100 or more meant a person's gapper fee was considered paid, but I am not seeing it in this list;

https://permies.com/wiki/113421/bwb-ks/full-status

I am wondering if I am remembering this wrong... and if the gapper fee was included, is the Boot waiting list fee considered something apart from the gapper fee?

The point, I just learned of the "no penalties for passing" and probably should go ahead and get my name on that list.

Yes, the gapper fee covers the bootcamp entrance! So, by having the gapper fee waived, you're able to get on the bootcamp waiting list. You posted in the perfect place, too, to notify Paul you want to get on it!

Hello.  I'm interested in the SKIP event in July. Is that also waitlisted and do I need to get on the bootcamp waitlist with $100 payment for that?  If you are still looking for workers for the bootcamp event, I'm open to arriving early to work in exchange for a SKIP ticket.  Have lots of free time and a desire for lots of skills!  Thank you.

Here is the stuff about work trades for the skip event in july.

Basically, the people that have a similar idea for a work trade back when we first posted it signed up for the waiting list.  So there are people ahead of you on the waiting list.

At the same time, a person could have in january to do their work trade, but nobody on the waiting list took that spot.  So maybe everybody on the waiting list is waiting for something else.  Therefore, you could sign up for the bootcamp waiting list and get in when it is most convenient for you.

And more:  we hope to be able to expand the bootcamp this spring so that when we make the call for people that want to come out on march 7, we might be able to take in six people.

Does this help paint a picture?

I think I understand - thank you :) I see that tickets are still available to SKIP since paypal just gave me the option of paying early bird pricing (which I understand to mean that the SKIP event is not waitlisted yet - correct?) .  I'm new to permaculture and really motivated to meet people, bang out some projects and gain some skills, so it may be simpler to just pay in order to secure the opportunity for this summer.  That would be fine, too. Thanks for your assistance!

We came for one week "boot-lite" on an invite after the Greenhouse Kickstarter, in August.

Am I reading correctly that I could be put BACK on the waitlist?  Because I would love to come again, but at my current life (four homeschooling kids) I can likely come for one or two weeks.

ALSO:  If you are "short" on boots, would it be beneficial for me to come for one week?  I am totally fine with a shared/top bunk (and my husband promises I don't snore =)

We have a new batch of boots showing up in a few days, so we will be at a max for what the boot managers can handle.  And then when those boots get good and settled, we hope to have a new bunch!

Yes!  You can have your name added back onto the waiting list!   And, if you want to set a schedule and all that - there is always the sepper program!

Sometime in the next day or two I will be sending an email out to everybody on the waiting list fishing for people to come out on March 7th.  The core of the email will state:

Please reply to this email if you are currently certain that you will:

- definitely arrive on March 7th around 3 or 4 in the afternoon
(or close to that for people that would be flying in)
- commit to a minimum of one week
(And, we hope, it is something that might last many months or even years)

So right now might be a good time to figure out if this date is a for sure thing for you.

I know that some people are keen on work trade stuff and this is the exact date to do the work trade for all three summer events.

Hi Pierre!
It looks like we have filled the spots for March 7th. There is always a chance something changes or someone can’t make it, in which case I believe Paul will reach out to the waitlist once again...

Sometime around the first of march I will probably send an invite out for one or two new people to start march 28th.

Depending on "the three barriers" this could be zero to four people.  My guess is that it will be for one or two people.  It is also probable that "the call" will go out late - maybe as late as march 13th.

I know that there are people that want to do the work trades for our events.  And we are now moving toward a system of putting your time into the bootcamp this year, and trade for the events next year.  And I think there are a few people that have timed their lives in such a way to cut it extremely close - to show up in just the nick of time to do the work trade.  So they signed up for the waiting list very early on in order to be first in line for the trades.  I wish to honor those that signed up early, but I do wish to emphasize that those folks might want to come out earlier still to give themselves some safety margin.

I offered four spots, and two people are coming.  Therefore if more people jump on the waiting list, the wait will probably not be long.

Oh, so if I've backed the "Glory" ($100) level on the "Build a Better World" KS, I can get on the bootcamp waiting list? Count me in, then!

(Except I have different e-mails for here and Kickstarter and little idea how to prove that I'm the same person. But the fact that I am in the relevant inner circle of the forum hints I did link the two somehow, so that might be enough :D)

And while we're at it, is there any info about bootcamping requirements for non-US people (visa, for example)? Or is it part of the e-mail and questionnaire? I've been at https://permies.com/t/bootcamp, here and https://wheaton-labs.com/bootcamp/ and seem to have gone into a cycle between the three without finding the pertinent info...

I sent this out to all the people on the waiting list a week or two ago.   Now thinking it is wise to share it here:

We now have 48 people waiting on the permaculture bootcamp mailing list.

We have some new boots arriving june 6th.  One week before our PDC
begins.  Most of the current bootcamp will be attending the PDC, which
lasts two weeks.  And 100% of the bootcamp will either be attending
the PTJ (permaculture technology jamboree) or teaching in it, or
helping with the event.  When the PTJ ends, the SKIP event begins.
Because the current structure of the SKIP event does not allow as many
attendees as the PDC pr PTJ, the bootcamp will kinda get back to
normal.

Mix into all of that:  we have had several people buy tickets to our
summer events and express that they would like to remain after the
summer events as boots.

More mix:  some people came to the bootcamp just to do the work trade
for the summer events, so they will be creating open spots in the
bootcamp.

This is a long winded way of saying that we are thinking we will
accept some new boots that would arrive on july 18th - about halfway
through the SKIP event.  The official invite will go out in about a
month.

The last few times we have sent something out to the waiting list, we
had fewer people come than we asked for.  In other words, of all the
people that said "I want to come!" 100% came - eliminating the "wait"
from "the waiting list."  So if you are ready when the next invite
goes out, there is an extremely good chance you will be able to come.

To talk about the bootcamp or the waiting list:

The cost of Bootcamp is the same as the waiting list: $100. Before it needed a waiting list, it cost $100, and has for many years.

Thankfully, it's a one-time payment. No one ever needs to pay it more than once. You can join bootcamp, leave, and then rejoin, and not have to pay it again.

The sepper program has no waiting list.  You rent a structure and then you can be in the bootcamp as much or as little as you like.  You arrange rental dates instead of getting on the waiting list.  Is that what you are looking for?
