The problem is, Paul's been saying for a long time that the old Recent Topics would go away. And no one did anything. We didn't test things or find out that the mobile recent topics was related to the desktop recent topics. We didn't test the newer recent topics via forum view. And we didn't do anything when Paul

I am about to turn off the old view.
This includes the old forum view, the old category view, the old thread view and ... the "recent topics" list. These things will all be gone someday soon. I suppose if somebody gives me $40,000 I would find a way to keep it going. But I really doubt that is going to happen.
The old view has to go because we keep adding features to the codebase and it appears to be breaking parts of the old view. Or we add a feature and people complain that the feature is not available in the old view. We need our code base to be lean and malleable - because there are a lot more features coming.
What would be handy is if people could make suggestions for new features added to the current view. It is very helpful if the people making those suggestions somehow make it clear that they are familiar with our current feature set. Especially the different views available on the home page.
If this thread has a lot of good, clear, knowledgable suggestions, it is easy for the developers to understand what is being requested. And then when the old view does go away, there is a good chance that the new view will be lovely for everybody.
He asked for help and testing before making the changes. He explained why these things had to go. And, I'm thinking a lot of us either (A) weren't around back then, or (B) scrolled past it and thought, "I'll learn to cope when the changes happened. For now I'm going to keep using my Recent Topics!"--I know that was my thought.
Right now, we
volunteer staff are putting in hours and time and effort into trying to get a responsive mobile view. We NEED a responsive mobile design. Google hasn't been showing permies to 1/2 the amount of people since Google decided mobile was king. Over 1/2 of permies are on mobile view. And, the path to a responsive design is to rid ourselves of old, clogged code so we can build new, amazing code.
If anyone is wanting to see a screenshot of what our new responsive design will look like, I can bring one up. I'm really excited to have things better. And I'm really grateful for everyone who's helped test and support permies.
I love and am so grateful for this awesome community of people!
